Relevance. In connection with the political situation in the world, sport can be said to have become political. Russian athletes at various competitions, including the Olympics, are often dishonestly judged: thorough doping control, as a result of which doping is found in athletes and they are removed from competitions; and the decision of the judges, despite the best performance of our athletes, is also set against Russian athletes. An example is the Russian gymnasts Anna and Diana Averina at the Tokyo Olympics; Kamila Valieva was also subjected to dishonest refereeing at the Beijing Olympics. All this greatly affects the self-esteem and self-perception of athletes. Self-esteem and its role is very important in the life of any person. Without it, it is difficult and even, one might say, impossible to find your place in life. Thanks to adequate self-assessment, a person is critical of himself, constantly tries on his capabilities to the requirements that life sets before him, knows how to independently set for himself those goals that he is able to achieve, evaluates the course of his thoughts, actions and results with a certain severity, carefully checks all assumptions, weighs decisions thoughtfully and refuses any hypothesis if it is not confirmed. Self-esteem is very important in the activities of athletes, where there is a struggle for such small, but very important values of addition or decrease - a second, a centimeter, a gram, and even their fractions. To develop a sense of self-worth, to increase the self-confidence of athletes is a very important task facing the coach and psychologist. Adequate self-esteem is an important component of success. Due to the fact that team and individual sports have different specifics, we will conduct a study of self-assessment of team and individual sports athletes.
