Sand therapy is a type of modern art therapy that includes a system of sand games that allow to reveal the individuality of each child and overcome his psychological difficulties. The use of this method of correction helps to create a favorable emotional child’s background and increase the effectiveness of corrective influence.Playing in the sand the child can create his own world which can be viewed, modified, discussed or photographed.

To organize the sand therapy process requires a sand box, sand, water and a collection of miniature figurines. During sand therapy sessions children with speech disorders are so enthusiastic about making sand buildings that they forget about their speech disadvantages and begin to communicate freely. Also, children enter into a dialogue fully and express their opinion, that is, show their communicative capabilities.

There are different games with sand:

educational games aimed at developing tactile-kinesthetic sensitivity and fine motor skills of the hands. These games provide the learning process for reading, writing, counting, literacy;

cognitive games enable children to learn about the diversity of the world around them;

projective games open up the child's potential, develop his creativity and imagination.

What tasks can a speech therapist offer using sand therapy?

For example:

- Slide your palms over the surface of the sand in a zigzag or circular motion (cars, sleds, snakes).

- Create with prints of palms, fists, knuckles, ribs of palms all kinds of patterns in the sand.

- "Walk" on the sand separately with each finger of the right and left hands in turn, then you can group your fingers, creating "mysterious tracks".

Articulatory gymnastics

For example:

Horse. Click your tongue while your fingers "jump on the sand".

Turkeys. Quickly lick your upper lip with your tongue with the sound "bl-bl-bl", move your fingers in time in the thickness of the sand.

Swing. Move your tongue up and down rhythmically, move your index finger in the sand in the same direction.

Development of phonemic hearing

For example:

Hide the handles. Hide your hands in the sand when you hear a given sound (first among sounds, then among syllables, then among words).

Diver. Get objects or pictures from the bottom of the sandbox and name them, pronouncing differentiable sounds.
