Almost everyone knows about the sad fate of the huge liner "Titanic". It is demise is shrouded in myth and conjecture.

The passenger ship Titanic sailed on it is first and final voyage on April 10, 1912. More than 2,000 "lucky" people boarded the ship, and about 1,000 people came to say goodbye to their families. On the night of 14-15 April, the huge vessel collided with an iceberg and was wrecked.

Today, there are no survivors of any passenger "Titanic", his last guest, Millvine Dean, died in 2009 at the age of 97 years. At the time of the tragedy she was only 9 months old and she does not remember anything.

When the Titanic crashed, 1,517 people were killed. Only 700 passengers were able to get into the rescue boats. Most of the boats were still empty.

Eyewitnesses of the tragedy recalled that the cries of drowning until the end of days hunted them. They were like a swarm of bees.

Five days after the tragedy, rescuers began to collect the dead. They saw only white patches that were actually frozen bodies of people, some of them wearing life jackets.

From the words of an eyewitness: "We saw a woman in a nightgown with a child tightly tied to her chest." And again: "the body of a woman was also found clutching a red dog tightly in her arms. Some were dressed for dance and dinner, some died in nightgowns and pajamas. One woman had a life belt and two children in her arms."

What happened to the survivors? Ten of them committed suicide. Some were deeply depressed throughout their lives. The disaster has undermined people's mental health. Some people even had to be treated in psychiatric clinics.

I was struck by the story of a married couple. Famous entrepreneur Isidore Strauss and his wife IDA have been married for 40 years and have never been separated. During the incident on the Titanic, the head of the family refused to get into the rescue boat, leaving it for the women and children, and his wife stayed with him. They were last seen on deck with their arms around each other. I try to imagine their feelings at that moment. It's a mixture of fear of death, endless love and heroism. IDA might have escaped, but she had not thought of leaving her husband. That's how selfless love can be. It is difficult to imagine how difficult her decision was, and maybe not? Were they happy to be together at the worst moment of their lives?

The youngest passenger to remember the crash was Eva Miriam HART. She was 7 years old when she and her parents boarded the Titanic. Her mother was worried about a bad feeling, so she decided not to sleep at night. When the ship hit the iceberg, her father ran into the cabin, wrapped eve in a blanket and put her in the boat with her mother. His last words were, "Hold mother's hand and be a good girl."

Children and women were rescued first. So one father had to put his sons in the boat. The little ones couldn't even talk yet. For a time, Newspapers wrote about the "two sea waifs" and published pictures of them to find the boys ' families. A month later, their own mother found them.

19-year-old Jeremiah Burke from Ireland, before he died, managed to write a farewell message to his loved ones, put in a bottle and throw into the ocean. Surprisingly, a year later it washed ashore just a few miles from the young man's home.

Family carefully its kept almost a hundred years: "From " Titanic", goodbye all. Burke of Glanmire, Cork."

It was a honeymoon for Edward and Ethel Beany. The woman was put into the boat, and her husband remained on board. He had to jump into the icy water, but he was lucky, he swam to the boat, which still had places. Ethel didn't know what was wrong with Edward. But then they were quickly found. They never parted again. What is to say, quite specific wedding journey, but the fate was favorable to them.

Some survivors felt guilty about the dead. For example, Frederick fleet, who first saw the iceberg, believed that if he had binoculars, the disaster would not have happened. Frederick had felt guilty all his life. He eventually committed suicide in 1964.

I don't think Frederick is more to blame than the others. Who is to blame? So it’s the President "White Star Line." After all, it was his decision to limit the number of boats on Board and go through the ice zone on the night of the collision.

Many more stories of heroism and cowardice can tell us this event. These people have had a hard time. It's hard to imagine how they felt at that moment. The Titanic sank in 2 hours and 40 minutes. During this time, someone managed to escape, and someone has to die. There was panic on Board. There was fear in his eyes. People were losing each other. Some for a short time, and others - forever. There are many mysteries, injustices of fate. But no one can turn back time, what happened. After 100 years, people scattered 1.5 million rose petals over the crash site in memory of the victims.
