Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular, and today in the lineup of many well-known automakers have cars on the electric motor. Now we will present the history of one of the companies producing electric cars — Tesla.

Tesla is an American automotive and energy company based in California. The company specializes in electric car manufacturing. Its founders are Martin Eberhard and Mark Tarpenning, but the company considers Elon Musk, Jeffrey Brian Strobel and Ian Wright its co-founders.

At the beginning of series financing, Tesla Motors was joined by Elon Musk, JB Straubel and Ian Wright, who by now co-founded the company. Musk, who previously served as сhairman and is currently chief executive, said he views Tesla Motors as a technology company and an independent automaker, aimed at eventually offering electric vehicles at prices affordable to the average consumer.

Elon Musk is a Canadian-American engineer, entrepreneur, inventor, investor. Elon Musk is the founder of Paypal, SpaceX, Tesla, and a member of the Board of Directors of SolarCity, a company founded by his cousins. By the way, these are his famous quotes: «You don't have to hire a lot of people to do a difficult job», «Quantity never compensates for talent, and two people who don't know something are no better than the same one», said Elon Musk.

Tesla Motors shortened its name to Tesla in February 2017.

Tesla Roadster;

Tesla Model S;

Tesla Model X;

Tesla Semi.

In March 2008, mass production of the first car, the Roadster, was launched. The model proved to be successful and by 2012, about 2100 cars were produced in the pipeline. The Roadster accelerated to 200 km per hour and actually became the world's first available all-electric car.

A prototype of Tesla's second model, the Tesla Model S, was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show in Germany. On a single charge of batteries, the model S can travel 426 kilometers. The time to fully charge the batteries has been reduced to 30 minutes. In the most expensive configuration, the car is able to accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.1 seconds. Prices for the Model S start at $75 thousand. In 2015, Tesla begins mass production of its first full-size crossover - Tesla Model X, able to overcome on a single charge about 500 kilometers.

Over time, Mask manages to bring reality closer to the mission stated by Tesla: the cost of electric cars is reduced, and the characteristics are not inferior to cars with gasoline engines. In 2017, the company produces its most economical model - Tesla Model 3, the price of the standard version of which does not exceed $35 thousand. The model was presented to the public on April 1, 2016. The presentation of the prototype took place a year earlier, and already in the first week of pre-sale the car was reserved by 325 thousand people.

But Musk does not stop there: on November 16, 2017, Tesla held a presentation of the Tesla Semi electric truck, its deliveries will begin in 2019. Without recharging the battery, the Tesla Semi can cover a distance of up to 800 kilometers. Without cargo, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, and with a full load of 36 tons, the acceleration time will be 20 seconds. The battery of the electric tractor is fully charged in 40 minutes.

In March 2019, Tesla held a presentation of its first SUV, the sixth model in a row, Model Y. Serial production of cars will begin only in autumn 2020. Model Y has a power reserve of 370 km without recharging and accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.9 seconds. The maximum speed of the car will be 193 kilometers per hour. In the basic configuration of the car will cost $39 thousand.

In conclusion, I would like to note the fact that despite the high popularity of electric vehicles in the United States, in Russia, on the contrary, they are not frequently sold as there are problems with infrastructure. One can only hope that things will be better in the future.
