In Business a particular attention is devoted to the proper attitude towards the environment, including the implementation of logistic functions, which must be carried out through the introduction of new resourcesaving technologies , environmental assessment of the interaction of the processing resources to the environment. Thus, the need for “green” logistics is increasing. [3]
‘The term “green logistics” is defined as supply chain management practices and strategies that reduce the environmental and energy footprint of freight distribution, which focuses on material handling, waste management, packaging and transport (Rodrigue et al., 2012). Green logistics consists of all activities related to the eco-efficient management of the forward and reverse flows of products and information between the point of origin and the point of consumption whose purpose is to meet or exceed customer demand (Mesjasz-Lech, 2011)’. [2; 303 ]
The leading international transport and logistics companies practicing the tools of “green” logistics in their work are given in table 1. [1]

Foreign companies have been adopting elements of “green” logistics for over 10 years, when Russian companies only now start implementing this type of logistics.
One of the first Russian companies to achieve success in the implementation of “green” logistics is the company X5 Retail Group. The company’s management observes the preservation of the environment as a key to successful and long-term development. Thus, due to the growth of the company and therefore the growth of the environmental impact, the implementation of green logistics has started. (Table 2.) [5]

“Green” Logistics at X5 Retail Group
Direction of work |
Result |
Recycling and utilization of waste |
Since 2015, the list of recyclable waste (cardboard, cellophane, waste oil, etc.) has been increased and the proportion of waste to be disposed of has been reduced respectively. |
Eco-packages and eco-bags |
Reducing the proportion of non-degradable waste. |
Reusable packaging |
These types of packaging minimize waste associated with the supply of products. |
Cooperation in the field of environmental protection |
Collaboration with Greenpeace in special projects. |
Environmental initiatives in logistics and transport |
1. Refusal to buy used cars. 2. Refueling is carried out at the NESTE gas station , which guarantees high fuel quality. 3. The introduction of the program to optimize routes. |
These initiatives in the field of “green” logistics are only a small part to ensure environmental safety, but we would like to underline that the company is actively working in this area.
Based on the data obtained, we proposed that the rolling stock of X5 Retail Group can minimizes the environmental impact. It requires the replacement of the vehicles operating mainly on diesel fuel, on vehicles running on gas engine fuel.
The relative content of toxic components in the exhaust gases is presented in picture 1. [4]

This innovation will allow:
1. Save about 20-30% of funds for refueling cars.
2. Combined use of fuel, thereby increasing the range.
3. Reduce oil consumption and wear parts.
4. Increase the service life of cars.
5. Reduce the share of harmful emissions into the environment.
