Art continuity is the connection between historical periods of art development, art schools, trends, styles, individual creative manners. The essence of continuity lies in the inheritance of artistic and aesthetic ideas, creative principles, in the preservation of formal and meaningful structures and elements of art. Art continuity does not mean simply repeating the achievements of past art. The uniqueness of its historical stages and specific forms of creativity are conditioned by the unique socio-historical situation in which the artist creates.
Bringing of continuity to the simple repetition of the rules becomes a serious barrier to artistic development. An important feature of continuity in art is the presence of links of this stage of development of art not only with the previous ones, but also with all the past artistic and aesthetic experience of mankind. Continuity, therefore, characterizes not only the art of the distinct people, it is an essential part of the world artistic process.
Preservation of the highest artistic achievements of the past, in particular, manifested in the artistic development of continuity. Time does not detract from their values and does not turn them into the property of the history of art exclusively. The truly great art of the past epochs is included in the spiritual culture of modernity and continues to be a source of aesthetic knowledge and enjoyment.
Due to the continuity mankind acquires achievements of previous eras and culture itself acquires the possibility of continuous development on that basis.
In our days, modern art is widely spread and that is radically different from everything in the past. All kinds of art movements that have developed in the late XX century are called Modern art. During the postwar period it was a kind of outlet, which taught people again to dream and invent new realities of life.
Many modern people can answer the question what is installation, performance, conceptualism or ready-made without a hitch. But still, not everyone understands and accepts the works of contemporary artists.
Actual problems of modern art
Some art critics refer works and figures, which appeared in the first decades of the twentieth century and continue to demonstrate their talent to the world today, to contemporary art.
According to experts, one of the main problems of contemporary art is its amazing elitism and institutionalism. It means, in order to achieve fame, a modern artist needs to become recognized by a narrow circle of critics and art dealers. Experts associate this phenomenon with the fact that an art object is a kind of object, which can’t be identified to be art or not by simple person with the help of his senses. For this reason there is a need for that object to be recognized and received its place in a special world of critics and art dealers.
At the same time, the main problems of modern art are also its misunderstanding by the majority of viewers. Unfortunately, or fortunately the ordinary people are often can’t understand and access the beauty of the toilet, placed on a pedestal (ready-made is the technique in which the author uses a ready-made object that is not related to art, giving it a special meaning) or a piece of fat lying on a chair (conceptualism-the direction in art in which the idea prevails over its embodiment).
Some people call the attempts of contemporary artists to "present" the most common and even disgusting subject like a piece of art, "exercises around the void". Other words, an attempt to surprise the audience and, at the same time, to make the artist not to be laughed at.
The so-called "age of reproduction", indirect contact with the work of art can also be called a problem of modern art. With virtually unlimited access to information, people are no longer hurry to visit exhibitions of both contemporary artists and representatives of "classical" painting or sculpture. However, the reproduction of a work of art, a television program or a photo report from a cultural event, and even a recording of a concert cannot convey all the feelings that a person experiences when directly acquainted with the object of art.
Problems of modern theatrical art
Very often we hear a phrase such as "The Theater is dead!" Recently, fewer and fewer people go to the theaters, preferring Hollywood blockbusters with a simple plot, bright picture and an incredible amount of "action". Directors and art critics believe that not only the audience, but also theater directors are to blame for this situation. Many of them are completely unwilling to follow the path of innovation and look for new forms. This leads to the fact that only very adult spectators go to the theaters, and young people are almost absent.
But on the other hand, most of the "inveterate theatergoers" simply do not accept innovations and want to watch only traditional productions. The lack of adequate funding is also considered to be a problem of the theatre. To put a decent performance that will make an indelible impression on any viewer, there is need to do a great job and spend a considerable amount of money.
According to the opinion of the Russian theater critic Alexander Vislov, the theater "goes to the bottom" also "thanks to" television, which accustomed the viewer to low-grade series with a mediocre plot, directing and acting.
According to the leading theatrical figures, the only way out for the theater at the moment is to create an exclusive product that can surprise and amaze the imagination. The theatre will decrepit and really die if it doesn't wake and provoke the viewer.
Modern art of the 21st century (painting) - mysterious, incomprehensible, fascinating, permanently changed the vector of development not only of a separate sphere, but also of the whole life of mankind. It reflects and creates modernity at the same time. Continuously changing, the art of modernity allows to stop constantly hurrying man for a moment. Stop to remember the feelings that lie deep inside. Stop to gain the pace again and rush into a whirlwind of events and affairs.
And despite all the problems, the art, like the theater, will exist as long as the human exists and think. After all, each of us has a need for art as an aesthetically ideal kind of human activity.
In addition, there are real creators, whose works are worthy of respect and admiration, among the huge number of representatives of contemporary art, just looking for fame and wealth.
