The creator of the largest social network - Mark Zuckerberg was born May 14, 1984 in the small town of White Plains, which is not far from New York. Mark’s family was an ordinary one: dad worked as a dentist, mother as a psychiatrist. Zuckerberg was the second child and had one elder and two younger sisters. Mark’s love for programming appeared at school. Mark was fond of computers, and new ideas in his head constantly arose. At the age of 11 he wrote his own sites. In the ninth grade, he created a computer version of board game "Risk". In addition, Zuckerberg, along with his school friend came up with the player of MP3 files, which can automatically generate playlists based on the user preferences, so Microsoft wanted to buy this program. But if you think that Zuckerberg succeeded only in programming, then you are greatly mistaken. Mark was a prize-winner of school Olympiads on astronomy, mathematics, physics and languages. In addition, he is fluent in Hebrew, Latin, Greek and French. After graduating from a private school in New Hampshire Mark was invited to work for one of two leading IT-companies of US -AOL and Microsoft. However, he disagreed, because of entering one of the most prestigious universities in the world - Harvard.

The idea to create Facebook arose when Mark was studying at a prestigious private school in New Hampshire. Every year the school published something similar to the directory with contact data of students. The handbook has all the information about a person: his photograph, name, surname and address of residence. And the name of this guide: The Facebook, that in a literal translation means "face book".

Once, when he was studying in the second year, Mark wrote a code for the website «Facemash». It was the site which posted pictures of young people placed in pairs. It was necessary for the user to just vote for their favorite photo. This happened on October 28 of 2003. Soon after that, he entered Harvard University searching for the degree in psychology. During the study, Mark always had time for programming and used all his free time for that. Learning a completely different profession, the young programmer with his fellow university affiliation, Dustin Moskovitz, began to implement the idea, which was called Facebook. Mark wanted to create something that would unite peoples through the internet, so anyone can find friends with the same interests. He is a very stubborn man by nature, so he did everything possible to create this project.

Indeed, Mark Zuckerberg developed the project every day and night. First, he made the cover of the site. Here's another interesting fact about the color. Since the birth, Mark suffering from such a disease, like color blindness, so he could badly distinguish colors, especially shades of red and green colors. That is why the young talent created his project in blue color, because it enabled to see all shades of blue. After that, Mark thought that if this page belongs to a particular person, it certainly should be a place to post photos of the main page.

Then Mark cracked the protected areas of a computer database of Harvard University in order to copy all the students’ photos and put them on the site.

You can not imagine, but the site «Facemash» attracted 450 visitors during the first two hours and there were 22,000 views of photos. It was something incredible!!!

The site was gaining popularity with a great speed, but it was closed at Harvard University administration after a few days. Mark Zuckerberg was charged with the following duties: a security breach copyright and privacy. He was threatened to be excluded from the University. Mark, with new forces began to work on his original project with new forces. Soon he opened a website where his classmates began to share his thoughts about his project.

In January 2004, Mark Zuckerberg decided to write the code for the new site. Mark could not be stopped. So, February 4, 2004 at the address: The Facebook appears the initial version of the social network Facebook. More than half of university students were registered for the first month in the social network. The network’s popularity was growing, and new members joined Mark Zuckerberg’s team: Dustin Moskovitz (programmer), Eduardo Saverin (CFO), Andrew McCollum (artist), and Chris Hughes to help promote and improve the site.

In March 2004, Facebook users’ number increased. Students and other educational schools joined this social network. Since 2004, the Facebook Headquarters were placed in California, Palo Alto. In mid-2004, Facebook was registered as a company, and its first president Sean Parker was appointed. Sean Parker finds first investors for Facebook. A bit later, the company received its first investment. But, in 2005, Parker leaves the company Facebook, but it was not the end at the same time, because he takes part in the development of the company and regularly meets with Mark Zuckerberg. Peter Thiel became the first investment of Facebook- one of the founders of the well-known payment system PayPal. His investments amounted to 500 thousand Dollars. Due to this, for less than six months, «The Facebook» has gained the first million users. From this moment in its history the company actively engaged in the issues of venture investment.

In 2005 the company bought a domain name and it is now facebook.com and September 26, 2006 there was given an access to the social network for each user over 13 years and having an email address. Microsoft acquires a 1.6% stake in Facebook for $ 240 million in 2007 and assesses the entire company - at $ 15 billion. Microsoft received the right to place international ads on Facebook. In October 2008 Facebook opened the international headquarters in Dublin. Mark Zuckerberg is grateful to this site for becoming the youngest billionaire in the world for 23 years. Among shareholders there are also Russian investors. In 2009 the company «Digital Sky Technologies», which is controlled by Yuri Milner, Gregory Finger and Alisher Usmanov, acquired 1.96% of the preferred shares for 200 mln. Dollars. Later, Russian investors bought a 3% stake. Participation of «Digital Sky Technologies» is 10%. In 2017, Facebook remains the most popular social network in the world. The size of its monthly audience of 1.968 billion people. In 2017, Facebook offered a new service. It was a special card, which helped to identify the whereabouts of disaster victims. The project was launched with the support of UNICEF, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the World Food Program. June 6, 2017 British publisher «The Times» reported that Facebook planned to use artificial intelligence to analyze users’ emotions online. Emotion recognition system based on the analysis of the printing speed, the frequency of changing fonts and use emotions.

Thus, the foundation of the world’s most popular social network was a great step on the way of progress in IT sphere.
