Recently English has become the dominant language in health science. And the rapid development of science has confronted humanity with difficulties in assimilation of necessary information. Most of the materials are written in English language that makes difficulties for non-English speaking scholars. Increasingly, scientists ask translators to translate their articles or other works to be published. To be accepted by the international scientific community it is very important to be published in English language. That is one of many reasons why English-Russian translators are in a great demand. Medical translation is one of the most difficult fields. To define main difficulties with which might face the future translator we’ve made a research and conducted a survey based on questionnaire. This research covers the level of English language in medical sphere among 42 students of the 1-2 years. The text has been taken from Eurasian Journal of biomedicine, Volume 7, No 2, 2014 [1]. Time limit was 30 minutes in the classroom. Following questions have been asked:

Did you understand the text? (From 0-100%). How narrative was the text? (From 0-100%). What is the syntactic simplicity of the text? (From 0-100%). What difficulties did you meet while translating the text? What difficulties did you meet while reading the text? How many of unknown words did you meet while reading the text?

Results. During reading the text 28 students said it was hard to understand the meaning of the text, due to the lack knowledge in medicine. While translating the text 15 students were familiar to each other and said it was not impossible to translate some words without dictionaries. The syntactic simplicity according to their opinion wasn’t complicated. Half of the recipients agreed that the text was narrative.

Discussion. According to all the answers we may conclude that the lack of knowledge in specific sphere may have consequences on the process of understanding and translating the text. Most of the students didn’t know the translation of medical terminology and abbreviations. The structure of the texts was short and clear without extra words. Strictness and unambiguous of scientific terms are basic structures in medical literature. There are no expressions, emotions or other characteristics peculiar to art style. Some students faced with the problem how to translate the name of organizations, for example World Health Organization. In this case the word Health means «здравоохранение», not as «здоровье». Also there were difficulties with words consisting of 2 elements, for example, cardiovascular. But some new words were easy to understand because of Russian-English borrowings, for example, analysis, prognosis, phenomena, etc. Worth mentioning English borrowings day after day penetrate into the Russian language so intensively that some dictionaries are not able to register all new terms. But as the artificial language medical terminology is easy to classify that is a great advantage of stability. For example, anatomical classification is based on twelve functional systems:muscular, skeletal, nervous, digestive system, respiratory, etc. All diseases are classified according to their origin into: traumatic, neoplastic, endocrine, idiopathic, iatrogenic, allergic, etc. And causes of diseases are subdivided into thirteen etiological categories, with suffixes: ‘-alga‘, ‘-iasis‘, ‘-ysm’, ‘-itis‘,‘-oma’, ‘-osis‘, which are added to the name of affected part of the body or to the name of disease. Operations are also subdivided topographically and by nine basic procedures, for example, ‘exicisio‘‚ ‘sutura‘, ‘luxatio‘, etc[2]. Therefore knowledges in the features of medical terminology can simplify the translating process.

Unfortunately today not all universities can provide enough materials to study medical translation. It’s very interesting that no matter to the research results, all students admitted that it was hard to translate but they will try to improve their skills. All the translators should be good in any fields. If translator decided to work with medical texts he should be very confident because it’s highly responsible task.
