V. P. Zhukov was born in the village Trehalase Pskov region in a peasant family. After Nevel school teacher was drafted into the army. The war began. He passed it all to Win, last time was wounded in the besieged Berlin. After demobilization he graduated from the Almaty pedagogical Institute and then graduate of the Leningrad branch of the Institute of linguistics, USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1953 he defended his thesis. In 1961 he moved to Novgorod, where for thirty years he headed the Department of Russian language of the NSPI.

Vlas Platonovich was a wonderful example of a classic scholar. Defining your research interests are still at College, he devoted his life to the study of Russian phraseology. In his doctoral dissertation, "a Phraseological unit and a word", which he successfully defended in 1968, the fundamentals of phraseological theory, proposed an original method for the study of phraseological units, their classification posed problems, it has not lost relevance to this day. All this allows to call the name Vlas hope Zhukova among the founders of Russian phraseology as an independent branch of linguistics.

V. P. Zhukov wrote more than one hundred twenty works on phraseology, including 12 books. His articles are published in journals of "problems of linguistics", "Philology", "Russian language at school", in foreign editions of his monograph, "the Semantics of phraseologisms", "Russian phraseology" are examples of profound scientific analysis, outlining new perspectives in the development of phraseology, demonstrate a broad linguistic approach to the study of phenomena.

Fundamental works such as "the Semantics of phraseological units", "Russian phraseology" outline new prospects for the development of phraseology. Under his editorship and with his participation was released the first and only "Dictionary of phraseological synonyms of the Russian language", he is the author of "dictionary of Russian Proverbs and sayings" and one of the authors one of a kind "School phraseological dictionary".

Vlas Platonovich Zhukov was an excellent teacher. He was able to teach the material of the courses is clear and exciting, accompanied by theoretical statements interesting analysis of language facts. In the training of graduate students Vlas Platonovich gave great importance to knowledge of the linguistic literature, especially domestic. He was raised in his students a love for the science of language, scientific integrity, the pursuit of creative search and self-reliance. For the training of scientific personnel and contribution to the development of science Vlas Platonovich Zhukov was awarded the honorary title "Honored worker of science of RSFSR".

Recognition of the scientific achievements of V. P. Zhukov was a scientific-theoretical conference "Nuclear perefiriynogo relations in the vocabulary and phraseology", organized by the Institute of linguistics of the USSR Academy of Sciences together with the Department of Russian language of the NSPI, the international conference "the Idiom and the word" in honor of the 75th anniversary of Professor V. P. Zhukov, organized by the Institute of Russian literature of RAS, the Department of Russian language, Herzen state pedagogical University. A. I. Herzen and the Department of Russian language and NovSU international Symposium on "transient phenomena in the area of lexicon and phraseology of Russian and other Slavic languages" whose organizers were the Ministry of education of the Russian Federation and Novgorod University.
