State Museum Sholokhov established in 1984, is the only Russian state museum of the writer. It is located in the Rostov region. The basis of his collections - memorabilia that belonged to Sholokhov and his family.

The museum preserves everything that is connected with the life and work of writer's letters, manuscripts, objects, houses in which he lived, the nature, the farm and village depicted in the works of MA Sholokhov.

Creating a museum-reserve in his homeland was the fact the contributions of MA Sholokhov before the national literature, the world of spiritual culture.

The writer's life is inextricably linked with the Don edge, so not only complex expositions of the museum-reserve, but the area is a protected natural landscape, monuments Don architecture, preservation of entire streets and reconstruction of individual buildings in Cossack hamlets and villages are intended to provide the most complete disclosure of the identity of the writer, the world of his heroes, in a manner that it reflected many of the features familiar to him and locals people.

The main objective of the exposition in the museum reserve - each object is to make the museum an integral link in the overall chain of expositions, exhibitions, memorable places, recreating the fullest possible picture of the writer's life, the historical foundations of his works, their role in the spiritual culture of the nation.

The museum's collection includes more than 70 thousand units, memorial exhibition almost entirely of genuine things.

The zone of the protected natural landscape museum-reserve 38 236 hectares, of which landscape buffer zone - 3820 hectares.

The museum hosts the annual All-Russian literary and folk festival "Sholokhov Spring", which is held in late May, the birthday of the writer, which brings together guests from different regions of Russia, from near and far abroad

The central object is a manor MA Sholokhov.

It is located in the village Vyoshenskaya, on the banks of the Don River, and is a bright two-story mansion. The house was built in 1949 on the site of the old house, which was destroyed during the bombing of the village.

Sholokhov lived here 30 years, working on the third and most acute social book "Quiet Flows the Don", from the same house MA Sholokhov wrote letters IV Stalin about lawlessness and repression that took place in the Don in the 30s, and in this house he wrote his first book, "Virgin Soil Upturned".

The house can be visited only with a guide. The tour begins with the entrance hall, which is located on the first floor. In addition it is also within the office-desk, two dining rooms and a kitchen, but it is not exposed.

On the ground floor there is a formal dining room, where the whole family Sholokhovs and their guests for the holidays. In the far corner of the room is the most valuable exhibit of the museum - the piano firm "Schröder», made in 1907. MA Sholokhov often played music before the war. He had an ear for music and loved to pick your favorite and most memorable tunes on the piano by ear. After the war, for piano did not sit down.

In the small dining room family gathered on ordinary days.

On the second floor are the bedrooms and a study author. Tourists show nursery, a double bedroom and a guest room.

In the children on the wall hangs a handmade carpet that was preserved in Sholokhovs since before the war. Carpet is the second value of the exhibits after the piano.

On the table in the office of the writer, there are: the last half-smoked cigarette, a clock showing the time of death, a calendar with the date of death of Sholokhov, a black frame on a calendar with his own spouse did Sholokhov. Also in the office to be a fireplace, where Sholokhov burned the last chapters of the novel "They Fought for Their Motherland".

In the guest room stayed many well-known and high-ranking officials of the USSR, foreign guests.

On the second floor there is a room dedicated to the writer hobbies, hunting and fishing. This exhibition is unique in its kind, because all things - clothing, footwear, gear, lures, rods - authentic and belong to Sholokhov.

Also here is a small office and a writer, where he worked on his manuscripts. It is the writer in him was created the second book of the novel "Virgin Soil Upturned", wrote the story "The destiny of man", was the work on the chapters of the novel "They Fought for Their Country".

The tour ends in the house on the first floor in the room, "the Nobel Triumph" exhibition is devoted to awarding MI Sholokhov Nobel Prize.

In the courtyard of the museum restored the situation in previous years. Shed, cellar, old stove, garden furniture - all it was unchanged in the estate Sholokhovs in 1930.

On manor restored garden, preserved intact garage, a barn with a basement and a glacier, an outbuilding with a Russian stove. In the garage in 2003, the exposition, which shows the cars at various times served MA Sholokhov.

The garden is a memorial of the estate are the graves of the great writer and his wife. On the graves of Mikhail Alexandrovich and Maria Petrovna - always fresh flowers.
